NOTE FROM THE DOCTOR -

While studying to be an optometrist, Dr. Borwn received extensive hands-on education during two externships and a full in-house rotation.

From January to April, 2008, she performed her second externship at the Schweinfurt Army Hospital in Schweinfurt, Germany – providing pre- and post-operative laser refractive surgery patient care as well as comprehensive and emergency visual care in addition to management of ocular infection, inflammation and ocular trauma. She also accurately diagnosed, managed and treated anterior segment, posterior segment and neurological pathologies.

During her first externship (May-August 2007 at the Houston Eye Care Clinic), Dr. Brown managed patients’ primary eye health, including diagnosis and treatment of glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy, dry eye syndrome through insertion of punctual plugs; anterior and posterior segment disease; pre- and post-operative care with emphasis on cataract removal, and emergency eye care with expertise in foreign-body removal.

From August to December 2007 at the University of Houston College of Optometry (her in-house rotation), she became experienced in specialty contact lenses and performed RGP fits for patient with keratoconis, irregular corneas and post-graft patients. Dr. Brown also gained experience in low vision and pediatric treatments.
