When an infection of the cornea occurs, it is
almost always a virus that is responsible, usually,
adenovirus or herpes simplex, the virus that also
produces cold sores around the mouth. If you have
a cold sore, never put your fingers to your eyes
after touching your mouth. Both are very contagious.
If you suspect you may have keratitis see your
doctor immediately. Bacterial infections may also
produce keratititis. Your Today's Vision optometrist
will diagnose the condition and prescribe the
appropriate treatment.
