This measurement indicates refractive, macular,
and neural integrity. The task of the patient
is to recognize the smallest letter possible.
This is usually done with each eye separately
and both eyes together, without visual correction
and with habitual visual correction. Visual acuity
is expressed in a Snellen fraction, such as 20/20
when the numerator is the distance in feet (20
ft.) and the denomenator is the letter size.
