A Brief History of Today's Vision
Dr. Donald R. Glenz and Dr. Stig
B. Pedersen established Today's Vision in 1984
in Houston. Prior to their partnership, each had
been successful practitioners - Dr. Glenz in Houston
and Dr. Pedersen in his native Denmark. The early
80's marked a time of general economic turmoil
for Houston. In addition to that, corporately
owned optical superstores were popping up throughout
the state, and the fragmented independent optometrists
found themselves being squeezed. Superstores,
by their sheer size, were attractive because of
their promotion power and fast service. On the
other hand, independent operations had the personalized
service but lacked buying power to compete on
price. Dr. Glenz and Dr. Pedersen felt the time
was right to launch independently owned offices
working together to combine the best attributes
of both worlds. Their brainchild, Today's Vision,
took the middle road to consumer preference, focusing
on precision, speed, price and service.
Today's Vision's goals can be described in five
points:
- Quality at competitive prices,
- Fast, efficient, personalized service,
- Highly trained personnel,
- Availability (offices open evenings and Saturdays)
Today's Vision locations are open when patients
have time to see us with extended hours on Saturdays
and weekday evenings. By carrying large inventories,
75% of glasses sold and 95% of contact lenses
fitted are delivered within two hours. Today's
Vision staffers are monitored carefully to keep
them motivated and excited, a vital part of our
success. Constant training assures their level
of knowledge. Seventeen years of steady, charted
growth have seen Today's Vision expand to over
thirty locations covering Greater Houston.
